The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 89

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This week, we’ll go with Jack Jadson’s Vampirella #1, which is homaging Frank Frazetta’s cover for the original Vampirella #1.

Eighty-nine weeks down! Will we make it to week ninety?

If you’re going to do a homage that’s quite so similar to the original, you really want to make sure it isn’t quite so inferior to the original.

Maybe it’s just the .img, but is she missing a belly button?

Vampi has strange powers, Rollo.

Homage without innovation is not an homage; it’s karaoke.

That Frazetta cover isn’t even close to being one of his best and yet it’s still much more powerful than the homage.

Esp. having the bat-like shapes in planet vs. the rather generic Moon.

That’s not an homage as much as a bad copy.
