The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 91

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This week, we’ll go with Israel Sanchez’s cover for Spongebob Comics Annual Giant Swimtacular #2, which is homaging the title card for the Super Friends TV series

Ninety-one weeks down! Will we make it to week ninety-two?

To my mind, this is as good as homages get. The reference is clear enough that it makes a nice tribute, but it has tons of the personality of the actual characters in the comic. I think this is the perfect level for an homage.

That’s Super-Friends. :)

D’oh! Obviously it is Super Friends! I have no idea why I wrote Super Powers! Thanks, fixed it!

It’s actually a double homage–from the first Super Friends opener and also some design elements of the DC treasury edition for Super Friends.

Wow! Four comments in an no one has complained either that this is not a homage or that today’s artists are talentless hacks who cannot create anything original. This must be some kind of record.

Spongebob homaging Super Friends is kind of a snark blocker.
