Yes, it's time for another trip down memory lane with Comics You Should Own, as I reprint a post I originally wrote back in February 2005 on my far-less-popular blog. So let's look at the original Hobgoblin Saga, shall we? Complete with big-time SPOILERS!

As with Garth Ennis's Hellblazer, these are comics that are not truly great, but they are really fascinating. Call them the ur-Ellis comics, as you'll see. And, of course, SPOILERS are all over these posts!

Insane? Completely over-the-top? Outrageous? Ultra-violent? It must be a Frank Miller comic!

Why don't we take a look at a somewhat problematic but still worthy run by a Mister Ennis, shall we?

For only the second time, I look at one issue exclusively. But why this one? WHY????

Another short-lived series that was perhaps released at precisely the wrong time ... but that doesn't mean it's not fantastic!

I didn't have much to say when Steve Gerber died because, believe it or don't, I have read very little by the man. Yes, it's true! However, I have read this, so here's some kind of epitaph. As always, there are plenty of SPOILERS below, but not as many as usual!

"Torment" - a great Spider-Man story, or the greatest Spider-Man story? The debate begins below!

Yes, it's time for another flashback, to a time when my skills at writing these up weren't as refined as they are now. Yes, I know many people think my writing skills still aren't terribly refined! So I apologize for the rather short post. I'd add more, but I think these work nicely as a [...]

Long-time readers of Grendel might wonder where their issue #47 is. But they can probably figure out what issues #41-50 are, too. Always remember, there be SPOILERS in these posts!

You know, I always wondered if the bananas should have been more important ... but that's all I'm going to say until I warn you that there will be massive SPOILERS in this post! It's probably more pertinent for this one than a lot of others, because there's such a doozy in this story arc!

Instead of so many Grendel-related posts in a row (I have at least two more to go, and possibly more), I thought I would again get in the Way-Back Machine and update another of my old posts in this series. This time it's the excellent Bendis/Gaydos comic, another of those books, like Fury, that came out early in this millennium, [...]

It's another section of Matt Wagner's epic. It's an odd group of issues, but they're still excellent! And, as usual, SPOILERS abound in these posts!

Matt Wagner's masterpiece is our next installment. For now, I'm only looking at the first twelve issues. Next time, we'll go beyond that. And, as always, SPOILERS abound in these posts!

Occasionally I don't think I'm going to include a series in Comics You Should Own, because I don't remember it measuring up to greatness. Then I re-read it. Case in point: Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's rather odd tribute to everyone favorite's S.H.I.E.L.D. director. I remembering enjoying it when it first came out, but it's a [...]
