Comics Should Be Good 2014 March Madness: Round 1

Nightwing Vs Joker

Here are the first rounds for all four regions for this year’s Comics Should Be Good March Madness.

This year, you’re choosing which characters you think would win in a (non “to the death”) fight.

DC/Marvel Tourney, DC Street Level, Round 1

The first round of voting continues now!

Simply choose which characters you think would win in a (non “to the death”) fight in the following match-up. The voting concludes 48 hours from right now!

Each competitor has, let’s say, a half hour to prepare (so it’s not like Green Arrow just walking up to Booster Gold and sticking an arrow in his eye – Booster would be prepared), and can use whatever weaponry you figure would be typical for that character (so Nightwing can use whatever weapons you would expect him to normally use, but he can’t go get, I dunno, the Infinity Gauntlet, or whatever). For this particular poll, we’re using the current New 52 version of each character (and as I noted before, if a character is currently dead, just treat them as if they are alive).

Each competitor has, let’s say, a half hour to prepare (so it’s not like Thing just walking up to Dr. Strange and punching him – Strange would be prepared), and can use whatever weaponry you figure would be typical for that character (so Iron Man can use whatever weapons you would expect him to normally use, but he can’t go get, I dunno, the Infinity Gauntlet, or whatever). For this particular poll, by the way, Jean Grey does not have her Phoenix powers. If she did, she’d be a much higher seed.

Comics Should Be Good’s 6th Annual March Madness!!

Welcome to the 2014 DC/Marvel Comic Character Tournament!

As the NCAA basketball tournament goes along, so will a series of polls matching various comic book characters against each other. This year, we’re mixing it up. Instead of voting based on who is your favorite, you’ll be voting on who you think would win in a fight.

The characters I am using are the top 32 characters on each of the DC and Marvel Top 100 Characters List from a couple of years back (with a few omissions – I removed characters who are not in the New 52 for DC). You might differ with some of the rankings or the brackets (a particularly tricky one is differentiating between the low end of “Heavy Hitter” and the high end of “Street Level”). Let’s just take for granted that you will differ and save the time of saying, “A #6 seed? Character X should be a #4 seed!” or whatever, and just vote on what the Selection Committee came up with (especially since I’m not going to be changing anything).

Bracket

Each competitor has, let’s say, a half hour to prepare (so it’s not like the Hulk just walking up to Lex Luthor and smacking him – Luthor would be prepared), and can use whatever weaponry you figure would be typical for that character (so Punisher can use whatever guns you would expect him to normally use, but he can’t go get, I dunno, the Infinity Gauntlet, or whatever). These are not “to the death” fights, by the way. And if a character is currently dead, just act like the fight happened while they were alive.

Here are the first two regions up for voting!

DC Heavy Hitters, Round 1

Marvel Street Level, Round 1

I’ve eschewed “winners” posts this time around, but if you want percentages, all of them came in between 1,000 and 1,100 votes cast, with Byrne/Claremont and Lee/Kirby each getting roughly 74% of the vote, Morrison’s JLA getting 53% of the vote and Claremont/Cockrum winning with the smallest margin, just barely over 50% (50.46%).

Here are your Final Four matchups to vote on!
