It’s really astonishing to consider how many mediocre comics there are out there. Not good, but not bad enough to mock. Such is the case with our latest installment from deep in the back issue box. There’s nothing very good about this comic, but there’s nothing truly terrible, either. But will it bring back the first-time reader? Ah, that’s an entirely different question, isn’t it?

I bought a bunch of these comics at a sale my comics shoppe was having, so that’s the reason a lot in a row have been standard DC and Marvel superhero books. Sorry about that. On the one hand, a lot of people have already read these, so they can reminisce about them. On the other hand, while some of these might be mediocre, none of them have been eye-bleedingly bad, like we occasionally get with this series. Those are definitely more fun to write, I’ll tell you that much, and probably to read as well. C’est la vie! Today, it’s another fairly standard mid-1980s Marvel superhero book. Check out its identity after the cut!

You know, for such an iconic cover, this comic is kind of lousy. But does it hook the first-time reader? That’s what it’s all about!

Today: Classic creators! But will it result in a classic comic? You be the judge!

(Or, Today: A comic that Greg Hatcher probably loves. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

Will I do anything BIG for number fifty? Well, let’s get the suspense out of the way: No. I mean, this isn’t like Brian’s Legends Revealed, which is a fairly big deal around the comics blogaxy. I’m small potatoes compared to that (I’m weeping as I type this because of my awareness of my place in universe), so I’m just soldiering on with this and having no hoopla. And let’s be honest, when you’re randomly picking books out of a long box and reading them, you’re usually going to get junk. I guess I should have made sure that this installment was particularly awful, but I didn’t. It’s still pretty lousy, though. But at least it features creators you’ve heard of! And here, for your reading pleasure, the ground rules for these posts!

Today: A comic you might think would be as painful as some of the ones I’ve read in the past, but is surprisingly not. What could it be????

You know, I’ve been experimenting with putting some covers above the break, just to entice you to keep reading, but this entrant into our series is so godawful, so terrible, so horrifyingly eye-gouging, that I must keep you in suspense as long as I can. If you thought writing 2000 words about Firestar was excessive, I’d think twice about reading this, as I’ll probably double that writing about how bad this comic is. But hey! that’s part of the fun, isn’t it? So don’t click that “Continue Reading” link unless you’ve prepared yourself mentally and physically. I suggest re-reading V for Vendetta really quickly before you read further. That should help.

My comic book shoppe had a sale last weekend, and I found a bunch of cheap comics! So we’re back for a while, until I run out of them or he has another sale, in which case we’ll continue! Whoo-hoo! I’m sure you want me to post even more here!
