Random Thoughts is Saved!

The final tally for money raised for the Hero Initiative is a stunning $535, boosted by my promise to revive Random Thoughts here on Comics Should be Good if the total reached $500. I would like to thank the following people for their donations: p0w, Raymond Conlon, Alec Berry, Dan Billings, Tim Callahan, Sandy Nevett, Andrew Doyle, Mario McKellop, Lee Merowitz, PerfectDru, Eric Newsom, Brendan Wright, Joshua Schroeder, Rainer Hoermann, Greg Schueller, Brian Estep, James Leech, Brian Cronin, and Joseph Macaluso. This is, by far, the most money raised in any of my Blogathons and I’m extremely grateful to those who donated and those who lent their moral support.

Thank you.

Random Thoughts will return Tuesday at 4:45 pm.

No Random Thoughts… Yet

Well, the deadline came and went this morning, and the goal of $500 for the Hero Initiative as part of my Blogathon and with the promise of the return of Random Thoughts was not met. But, because Brian so wants to see the feature return, he’s talked me into extending the deadline until Friday evening (let’s say around 10pm EST). Basically, I did a 24-hour Blogathon for the Hero Initiative last week and, because I’m greedy for charity, I tried to sweeten the pot by adding the promise of Random Thoughts’s return should the total donations reach $500 (they were at $350 at the time). Since I made that promise/offer, I did receive some more donations, but we’re still around $70 away from the goal. If you want to save Random Thoughts, sponsor the Blogathon, and contribute to a good cause, you can do so in a variety of ways:

* Direct donations to the Hero Initiative
* Purchasing products from their site, including annual memberships
* Purchasing products from their eBay store

When you do, let me know at chevett13[AT]yahoo[DOT]ca so I can keep track of the total raised and of who to thank. And if that’s not enough, Brian went to bat for all of you wonderful Comics Should be Good readers and it would be a shame to let him down, right?

Blogathon 2011 Update and Offer

The Blogathon on Monday was a big success. The archive post of the entire thing is up for easy access and $349.99 was raised for the Hero Initiative. That’s the most raised in one of my Blogathons to date. But, I think we can do better. As I always do, I’ve left the sponsorship/donation window open for a week and I wanted to make an offer here. Ever since I stopped doing my weekly Random Thoughts here on Comics Should be Good, I’ve been told how much people miss those posts and how much they want to start doing them again. Well, here’s the deal: if the total amount raised as part of the Blogathon hits $500 by 9am EST Tuesday morning (August 23), then, that day, Random Thoughts returns to this blog — and will continue each and every week. Considering only ten people donating raised $349.99, I’m pretty sure the dozens, hundreds, thousands, how ever many people read this blog and love comics can raise another $150 for a fantastic cause and to get me thinking randomly every week again. I know not everyone can afford a lot and that’s fine. It doesn’t take a lot. Five bucks would make my day as far as a donation goes. And, five dollar donations can add up quickly. Giving money to the Hero Initiative is easy and they offer a variety of ways of helping them out:

* Direct donations to the Hero Initiative
* Purchasing products from their site, including annual memberships
* Purchasing products from their eBay store

If you do give, just let me know via e-mail (chevett13[AT]yahoo[DOT]ca) so I can keep track and give you the proper thanks. Like I said, I’d love to crack the $500 mark and, if that happens by 9am EST Tuesday, Random Thoughts returns at its usual time of 4:45pm that day — and every Tuesday that follows. I’m not sure what else I can do to make this a better deal: there’s 49 posts written in 24 hours, the promise of the return of a weekly feature that people seem to enjoy a lot, and a fantastic cause that deserves your support even without those other things.

Thank you
