What I bought – 2 May 2012

Has the world lost its joy? Is that why we’re in such a mess? (Madeleine L’Engle, from A Swiftly Tilting Planet)

So much good stuff! This is a wildly deceptive cover Power to the princess! RAGE!!!!! Brian Bolland, doing what he does Her eyes follow me!!!! I don't know who that's supposed to be I'm LOVING the new costume! Why so angry, Mr. Star? Only crazy people don't like Rafael Albuquerque! It's time to read some DC trades! Look at cute l'il Howard! I hate every ape I see ...

“No, she’s sincere enough – ain’t we all – but like the rest of us she doesn’t want to pay too high a price for it.” (George MacDonald Fraser, from Mr. American)

I'd read about dinosaurs ripping his shirt Would you look at that! Not all covers have to be great! When Krypto goes bad! I'm already uncomfortable! U! S! A! I'd like this more than once every two years, please! Well, this looks flingin'-flangin' awesome He'll bedazzle you! No, Amanda Conner does NOT draw the interiors!

By the river. She was standing by the river. She was dancing without moving. By the river. She wasn’t beautiful exactly; she was like a shimmer in the distance. She was so white his reservation eyes suffered. (Sherman Alexie, from “All I Wanted to do Was Dance”)

Dustin Nguyen is soooooo awesome Oh, the temptation! That can't be feminist-friendly! It's TABOO! This cover would be much better if they put a POW! on it Tony doesn't forge a sword in this comic, which is a damned shame Why isn't Franken-chick green on this cover? SCORE! Look, it's a boomerang pun! I'll get it out of the way in the alt-text: TIME TRAVEL IS IMPOSSIBLE! More good Kordey art for the haters! Bolland! Gracia-Lopez! Russell! Holy crap!!!!!! More Fiona Staples goodness! You cannot deny Risso's excellence! So many phallic symbols! Horrific violence in Gantz? Unprecedented! Why should I read it for free when I can buy it? Holy crap, this looks awesome Spies!!!!!

What I bought – 6 April 2011

A young girl, a frailty, simple and true, who had been unable to stand up from the piano and had had to be carried; a girl half his age; a girl who could not shoot a gun, had never been in an oyster house, atop a tower, or under the wharves; a girl hotter always than noon in August; a girl who knew nothing; had thrown him so hard that he would be out of breath forever. (Mark Helprin, from Winter’s Tale)

I know I'd be surprised if I found a tiny woman in my whiskey! You can't hide from the boobies! Well, I wouldn't want to see him coming out of the night at me, I'll tell you what My daughters could design a better trade dress than that! I miss Amadeus already! Auf wiedersehen, Misty! This cover doesn't even pretend to have anything to do with the interiors! That won't end well TOTALLY worth the wait! I have no idea why the cat doll is on this cover I'm back on board, baby! I'm digging the different colors on each cover! That's gotta hurt! Full of piratical goodness!

“Your profession?”

“Poet.”

“Poet? But what do you really do?”

“I write poetry.” (Jerzy Kosinski, from Blind Date)

This issue smells good! This issue, on the other hand, doesn't smell quite as good I suspect I know why this book is delayed, but I'm not saying! Ass: front and sort-of center! So much RAGE!!!!! He loves his work! Your eyes don't deceive you ...... those mice ARE riding hummingbirds! World War I action! Okay, when she gets fat, I chuckled What cheesecake? Amadeus reads his own comics! Those beads have to hurt when they slap against her legs Is this the greatest comic in the history of humanity? It's all nerdy and shit! There you are! Action ahoy! See, that's just not very nice ... Oh, the wackiness! Will he ever run out of bad sitcoms? An Arcana comic? TWO Arcana comics?
