A little of this, a little of that… comics and TV and books, all with a spooky angle, none of which was big enough to warrant its own piece. Continue Reading »
No one subject struck me as column-worthy on its own this week, so here are a few little things. Column-ettes. Continue Reading »
A little of this, a little of that. Some pulp fiction, a couple of costumed-hero movies you’ve probably never heard of, and even some comics. Continue Reading »
This and that. Comics, pulps, television, all sorts of things. You know the drill by now. Continue Reading »
Just stuff. Cool books people sent me, footnotes to some previous columns of the past few weeks, this-n-that. Continue Reading »
Short takes on comics, TV, other stuff.
Not a column but a bunch of little column-ettes this week– because lots of little things have been piling up that I keep meaning to mention here. Let’s see how many of them we can get through today, shall we? Continue Reading »
No, not frequently-asked questions HERE, frequently-asked questions in my real life. Each time one comes up, I think, Hey, there’s a column, and then I sit down to do it and it’s really more of a column-ette. So here they all are together.
This is going to be a short one today, because this is a house of illness; despite downing gallons of Vitamin Water, orange juice, and Airborne, Julie and I have succumbed to the Virulent Creeping Whatever that is making the rounds. But I do have a couple of interesting comics-related links and things to share that I forgot to put into the last two weeks’ worth of Cross-Hatchings, so you at least get that much today. More bits and pieces. Bookstore finds, a couple of thoughts about the Before Watchmen thing, and some odds and ends that arrived in the mail. (Normally I would never do two of these in a row, but to be honest, this is really the second half of last week’s column that was in progress before our home computer went dead.) Continue Reading »
Busy couple of weeks here, so it’s all bits and pieces today.
No column this week, but rather a series of column-ettes. Some thoughts on a couple of DC titles as well as some indies that got buried under the DCnU rollout, and a couple of other minor items of interest.
A little of this, a little of that. Full disclosure: there’s not a lot in here about comics. (Although there’s some.) However, the other stuff falls into the usual geek-type areas of interest. Old paperback series, James Bond novels, junk culture of all sorts, you should know the drill by now.
By the time you read this, Julie and I will be on the road again, for a long weekend of bookscouting and goofing off in and around The Dalles, Oregon. (Apparently, just in time for the Cherry Groove Festival. No, really.)
So here’s a bunch of little bits and pieces that have been accumulating in my “Maybe there’s a column there” files to tide you over. For some reason, this time it all seems to fall loosely under the ‘sword-and-sorcery’ banner.
Busy week here, so it’s a lot of small stuff. Some pulps, some Marvel, some old DC television. And something any parents of imaginative twelve-year-old girls might be interested to know.
