“I’ve always believed, Josef, that we are more in love with desire than with the desired!” (Irvin D. Yalom, from When Nietzsche Wept)

Well, that's a phallic blade right there Appetizing! It was the style of the times! You can't stay mad at it! So much creepy sexual imagery I don't even know where to start! She's making Rockwell paranoid! I think that explosion would knock him over 'Don't tell anyone I like 2 Broke Girls!!!!!' Like the concept, hate the execution Robert Plant should have had a cameo Now batting ... the golem! More French comics! Or, as I like to call them, 'Freedom Comics'

Thanks to the mild weather, the trees retained their foliage longer than usual. Red and gold, ocher and amber leaped to the eye. How beautifully the leaves aged on ten thousand twigs! No politics could produce such glory in a forest. Only so natural and simple a thing as death. (Frederic Morton, from A Nervous Splendor: Vienna 1888/1889)

What a cute hat! What an odd comic! This issue sure is ... shocking! Extreeeeeeeme close-up!!!!! Hey, not too phallic! It's disturbingly sexy! I gotta get me a bear trap! Owls, snakes, and panthers - oh my! Yeah, no Nicola Scott on this issue Hey, it's an issue! I'm not sure what's going on on that cover More goodness!

Committed: The Drug User’s Comic Reading List

Haven’t you ever wondered which comic books will enhance your life-threatening drug use? Apparently, some of my friends tell me that they read specific comic books only when they are drunk or high, deeming the content to be appropriate for consumption exclusively in an altered state. “It’s the worst thing you’ll ever do in your life,” she said, “helping the people you love to do something that in your heart you believe is deeply wrong.” (Orson Scott Card, from Xenocide)

So many dinosaur covers this week! I don't know if I want to know what's going on here Venetian blinds - your pulp/noir staple! Why is she reaching for me?!?!?!? Has Gillen paid enough dues to make this a success? Best cover of the year? Probably Is her left hand on top of underwear, and if so, WHY DEAR GOD WHY?!?!? No wonder comics writers and artists love dinosaurs - look how cool that is! Yes, I tried this! Given the way Moses usually acts, that smile sure is creepy! They went to the X-Men crossover a bit too late! So many dinosaurs!!!!!

What I bought – 8 July 2010

Actually, his statement in its entirety was, “The rich are the most discriminated-against minority in the world. Openly or covertly, everybody hates the rich because, openly or covertly, everybody envies the rich. Me, I love the rich. Somebody has to love them. Sure, a lot o’ rich people are assholes, but believe me, a lot o’ poor people are assholes, too, and an asshole with money can at least pay for his own drinks.” (Tom Robbins, from Jitterbug Perfume)

Damn, I love the backgrounds on these Quitely covers! Batman puts some Bactine on this and moves on, because he's tougher than you are! It's a double-shot of awesome straight to your cerebral cortex! I don't know how those dolphins got on top of that building, but how sad! That guy in the foreground creeps me out! I love the ghost fingers right in the center of the drawing! You know, if more cops looked like this and flew around like this, I'd be a criminal just to check it out! How can anyone not love Tom Scioli? I'd risk the arrows if fine ladies like that were paying me so much attention! I wonder what this issue is about? She will tic-tac-toe your ass to death! Yay! More nudity! That's kind of a lousy 'drawing' but a pretty effective image It just keeps getting weirder! Featuring ... SCIENCE!!!! I'm so geeked about this title! Is it the end? We shall see ... Raise a glass to Christopher Mitten! This actually represents something that happens within the pages! Who doesn't love retellings of old fairy tales?

I watched Count Tolstoy leave and thought how it is not he who knows the truth who is right, but he who is convinced of the truth of his lie. (Milorad Pavić, from Landscape Painted With Tea)

Alex Ross doesn't always do a great job with these covers, but he nails this one! She should just fight him with those nipples! Dire Wraiths REPRESENT! It takes a second to figure it out, but that's a keen cover! Oh, Tom Scioli, you wonderful bastard! Man, her feet must hurt! It's all symbolic and shit! It's Creeper-iffic! It's all done, and I can't wait to read it! I'm sure this will be cheery!

What I bought – 16 December 2009

Now hang our bloody colours by Damascus,
Reflexing hues of blood upon their heads,
While they walk quivering on their city walls,
Half-dead for fear before they feel my wrath.
Then let us freely banquet, and carous
Full bowls of wine unto the god of war,
That means to fill your helmets full of gold,
And make Damascus’ spoils as rich to you
As was to Jason Colchos’ golden fleece.
And now, Bajazeth, hast thou any stomach?

I just love that cover. Part five of five? Existence abides, bitches! Why yes, those are dogs with human heads! Manga-riffic! Who else can they kill??? The title as part of a declaration? Gold! More claustrophobia than you can handle! Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on on that cover either. Frenchie: Kicking ass and kissing guys! Why so angry? And why are they standing under a freeway? Man, I love this series. I don't know about this volume, because I haven't read it yet, but the first five are awesome. Enjoy the issues that exist, because it's not coming back! With fancy new coloring!
