What I bought – May and June 2011

Hey, look at that! I’m back in Arizona and I picked up almost two months’ worth of comics! Yeah, I’m not going to review them properly here – that would take waaaaaaaay too long. This is more of a “What I bought and the random thoughts I have about the issues and, why not, what I did in Pennsylvania for seven-and-a-half weeks.” Can you handle that??????

What I bought – 6 October 2010

“It’s like blue light when you touch me,” she’d say. “Electric blue light sparking between us.” She’d cry softly into my shoulder, tears of passion, because she couldn’t get close enough to me. (W. P. Kinsella, from The Iowa Baseball Confederacy)

Seeing your mom's Penthouse shoot would make anyone angry! I need me a sword like that! Those 'roids that Herc uses can't be good for him Oh, you stupid, stupid Ranger! It's all THREE-DEEEEEE!!!!! If they pour water over her, it would be just like Flashdance! He could use some calming tea or something Doll eyes freak me out, man! Bane has been hitting the Slim-Fast! Oh, the agony! I don't even want to know what that guy is doing! Dude needs to clean his ears every once in a while! They used my head tattoo on this cover, man! Firestar's breasts are oddly alluring! Fact: Nathan Fox is awesome! It's Ghost Rider-eriffic! I don't know if I'm tough enough to own this!

“It never occurs to you that the beautiful princess and the wicked old witch believe exactly the same thing: Anything at all, including cunning and lies, will work for the beautiful; nothing helps the ugly.” (John Gardner, from Freddy’s Book)

She looks like she's Abraham, about to sacrifice Isaac! These have been dull but effective covers It's FRICKEN! Farewell, Ex Machina ...... you'll be missed Rose Red decides it's ass-kickin' time! Bisley's covers crack me up! Only the coolest own jungle cats as pets! I love this cover It's all iconic and shit! Don't do it, Steve! More Western fun! What I bought – 16 June 2010

Let us not be deluded by forms of government. The word may be republic in France, constitutional monarchy in Prussia, absolute monarchy in Austria, but the thing is the same. Wherever there is a vast standing army, the government is the government of the sword. (Benjamin D’Israeli, 1852)

Ms. Kelly Thompson didn't like this cover, but I kind of dig it! Yes, it's girl-on-girl action - you gotta problem with that? Ruas' covers just creep me out, man! It's the semi-annual issue! Hot damn, Bisley's covers kick ass! Dynamite manages to get a Green Hornet crossover into this book, which is quite a trick! Calling central casting! Nothing's tougher than a cat smoking a cigarette! Spooktacular! I wonder if there is any lamentation of the women in this comic? A work of staggering genius? I think so! Chicks with swords sell like hotcakes! It's all optical illusiony!

This is how ALL football games should be decided! Freaky-deaky! You must love the Kaluta art! Mashing it up! Sigh ... more Deadpool! So much rage! Fact: Chris Samnee is awesome! History! I'm really looking forward to this!

What I bought – 3 February 2010

Turkish influence would have been better for Georgia than Russian influence, because Atatürk took a backward Turkey and made it modern, while Lenin and Stalin took a directionless Russia and made it backward. (Robert Kaplan, from Eastward to Tartary)

Oh, Tracy, you crazy fool! I love this cover Subliminal sexual imagery? Check! Well, that can't end well ... Only the first Zorro book this week! More Zorro than you can handle!

What I bought – 22 and 29 July 2009

Two weeks of reviews! Normally I’d just skip last week’s haul, but what the hell. I’m sure the kids can look after themselves, right? I’ll try to keep the ones about last week’s books short, though. The operative word being “try.”
