Suicide Forest Archives - Comics Should Be Good! @ Comic Book Resources

Frantic as a cardiograph scratching out the lines, Day 288: The Suicide Forest #1

Every day this year, I will be examining the first pages of random comics. This month I will be showing pages that are either scary or are part of “scary” issues (as scary as a comic can be, of course), because it’s October! Today’s page is from The Suicide Forest #1, which was published by IDW and is cover dated December 2010. Enjoy!

How does it happen that sometimes someone says something and wins someone else over forever? … at times a single word can work miracles. (Manuel Puig, from Kiss of the Spider Woman)

Man, I hate when they use my body for comic book covers without my permission! Francavilla drew this cover in 2010 - how long has he known he'll be doing this issue? Bwah-ha-ha-ha! Just to reassure you - that's not a penis Oh, Amanda Conner - is there anything you can't do? Symbolism! It's like she's shooting YOU!!!! Yeah, this won't end well Big 'n' spooky! She didn’t realize that it was in the blood and not on the skin; she didn’t see that there could be nothing more suburban than suburbanites repudiating themselves. (Hanif Kureishi, from The Buddha of Suburbia)

I don't know what those things on the sides of her legs are, but I wish they'd tell us! The name of this issue is NOT 'Time's Up'! I don't know what those letters next to the creators' names are The cover is the best thing about this issue! Why so many versions of Ozma? Such an unimportant part of the issue is depicted on this cover! I wish I could blow smoke like that! Don't taunt us with a Bradstreet cover! Spooooooky! I need me to get a tattoo on the back of my hand so I can freak people out! I love this cover! So, yeah, Dustin Nguyen is pretty good Hyperion looks really odd on that cover Let's give it another try! Who doesn't love the bleak stuff?

“I have told my sons that they are not under any circumstances to take part in massacres, and that the news of massacres of enemies is not to fill them with satisfaction or glee.

“I have also told them not to work for companies which make massacre machinery, and to express contempt for people who think we need machinery like that.” (Kurt Vonnegut, from Slaughterhouse-5)

Who doesn't heart Tabitha? Beware the 'roid rage! I have no idea what's happening on this cover Keepin' it old school! Just because she's dead doesn't mean she can't love! Biff! Pow! WHO? WHO?!?!?!? I hope an Eighties power ballad is playing in the background on this cover! Oh dear - it's never pretty!

“You see,” Lardner said at the long bar of the Artist and Writers Restaurant, “Duke thought if his dream came true he would be a different person. He’s not unhappy about the dream. He’s unhappy that he is still the same man. Happens to a lot of us. We get somewhere we wanted and find we’re still ourselves.” (Roger Kahn, from The Boys of Summer)

'Conceived' is spelled wrong on the cover!!!!! Man, those are some big-ass thighs! 'Do you like my big gun, Dick?!?!?' You gotta love that tag line! He has a '007' on his watch - that's a nice touch So much RAGE!!! The dragon just wanted to mate with the airplane! It has a guarantee! I'm digging this cover Who doesn't love Mouse Guard?Commies, that's who! None of this actually happens in this comic! Your own ... Nuclear ... Jesus ... Let's get physical, physical! Spoooooky! Man-Thing does not appear in this comic! Look how cute they are, eavesdropping on their past selves! Yay! They're all ready to kick ass! Oh, Thor - you can't stay mad at X-Factor!
