She Has No Head! – Bests (And A Few Worsts) Of 2010

Closing up our month of lists and year in review on She Has No Head! is a list of my “Bests” from 2010 (and a few worsts).  Please keep in mind that I didn’t get to read ALL THE BOOKS.  For example, The Return of The Dapper Men is sitting here and wooing me with its gorgeous swan song and telling me that it could have been a contender…but I just didn’t get to it…and that’s the way it is sometimes, but of the stuff that I read (which was A LOT), here’s what I really loved the most…

Committed: My Fantasy Superhero Creative Teams

It being the day before Thanksgiving, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of you happy holidays. I hope you have a lot of good comic books to read when you’re too full to move.

In the next few days it will not only be Thanksgiving but also my birthday, so I’ve decided to create my own unconventional creator/superhero wishlist. On previous Thanksgivings I have asked diverse comic book creators about what they’re thankful for and discussed my own gratitude for comics, but this year I’m taking a different direction and writing about what I’d like to see.

She Has No Head! – Two Chicks Talk About Comics And Stuff

Hmm...someone is definitely missing...

There’s been a lot of women in comics related chatter all over the internet the last week or so and most of it is at least a little frustrating.  So I reached out to fellow a fellow blogger – creator of the crazy popular and yet fairly recent DC Women Kicking Ass Tumblr blog, Sue – for a chat.  Sue has made a huge mark for herself in less than six months – becoming a serious resource for images, commentary, and information, especially as it relates to women and superheroes.  As some of this week’s news related directly to Sue’s petition to DC regarding the ridiculous DC 75th Anniversary logo which bizarrely leaves out Wonder Woman, I thought Sue might have some thoughts on this week’s craziness and beyond.  The following is an edited version of our two plus hour conversation on yahoo messenger…

Caldwell's Wonder Woman from Wednesday Comics

As I mentioned recently in the comments on one of Greg Burgas’ posts, I am painfully burned out on mainstream comics right now.  It’s been building for a while now, but the last four weeks have left me with a massive stack of mostly unread comic books.  Sure I read a few, and I’ve flipped through most of the rest multiple times, but looking at the pile…imagining reading them…is suddenly akin to something like Chinese water torture.

This has happened to me before, a few times actually, and it generally results in me taking a sabbatical of sorts from reading mainstream books for undetermined amounts of time – only to later return with vigor (and cluelessness as to why I ever needed to take a break from something so awesome).  However, this time, I find I’ve built a lot of little bits of my life around comics – my blog is regularly about comics, and I have this column, not to mention a superhero novel out on submission to publishers – so for the first time I don’t feel comfortable just walking away.

She Has No Head! – The 12 Comic Wishes Of Kelly’s Birthday Post…

Yep, today’s my birthday.

Kelly Thompson r1

I must have these boots IRL

You can figure out how old I am by figuring out how many columns I’ve done for She Has No Head! and then subtracting ten.  I WISH!  Yeah, no, it’s just the number of columns…no subtraction.  Man I’m old. ANYWAY…

Inspired in part by Chad Nevett’s always fun Random Thoughts and my sincere desire not to do a big serious post on my birthday…I bring you a list of 12 comics related ways in which I would like to bend the universe to my will in honor of ME.  Also, some cool shit I want people to buy for me.

Human posture indicates a lot about a person, but comic book superhero posture says just as much about the artist. Continue Reading »

What I bought – 10 September 2009

If your best friend Harry has a brother Larry, who in five days from now is gonna marry, why would Larry hope you can make it there, if you can, ’cause in the ceremony you’ll be the best man? That doesn’t make any sense!

What I bought – 2 September 2009

My wish: DC should charge one thin dollar for every issue of Justice League: Gay for Justice. It’s so not worth four dollars, but man! for one dollar, I would be all over that just for the sheer entertainment value. Didn’t everyone love that panel of Prometheus slicing that woman’s head off? GOLD!

And always remember: If you’re going to hire Machete to kill the bad guy, you’d better be damn sure the bad guy isn’t you!

Wednesday Comics Ranked: Week 8 Top 10

After skipping a week, I change the format. So Wonder Woman isn’t the only serial I’m snubbing, pretty much. Also, I dropped the dumb BCS jokes only Burgas and 12 other readers could possibly get, given our demographics. See what new dumb jokes I replace them with! Continue Reading »
